Milan Design Week activities

17/04/2018 - 22/04/2018 12:00 am

LUMENTILE has been presented in a prominent way during the Milan Design Week (17 to 22 April 2018), with several activities to raise awareness of the potential of the technologies generated in the project.

Taking advantage of the presence of numerous architects, interior designers and other Italian and international design professionals, the project has carried out the following actions to generate interest in the products resulting from the research.

Din – Design in 2018

At the heart of the Lambrate Design District, Din – Design In is staged for the sixth consecutive year (now the mainstay of the Fuorisalone). It is held in an industrial warehouse of 2,000 square meters, perfect frame to enhance the products of designers, academies and companies present at the event.

The LUMENTILE project set up its stand with a small sample of the product, awakening the interest of visitors and the media.

Milan’s Smart Square Demonstration

During the Milan Design Week there are many parallel events that fill the city with people interested in design, creativity and innovation

The architecture studio Progetto CMR has developed a installation in the Piazza di Castello, in the urban center of Milan. In this Smart Square they have given their vision about the Smart City of the future, in which they have included the luminous tiles as a key instrument in their signage and design.

The installation was able to generate curiosity about this LUMENTILE technology among passers-by and many of them were encouraged to try the luminous tiles.

Workshop Piazza Castello

On April 19th, a workshop in Piazza Castello presented the Lumentile project with a series of talks in the morning, distributed as follows:

  • 10:30 – 11:00 · Light and the Internet of things · Ettore FICI  – Bridgelux (Country Manager South and East Europe)
  • 11:00 – 11:30 · Advanced technologies for a new approach to lighting design in the digital era · Marco FRASCAROLO – Università RomaTre – Fabertechnica (Head of Lighting Laboratory – Light designer)
  • 11:30 – 12:00 · IoT: facts, experiences and key recommendations · Roberto Farina – CEFRIEL – Politecnico di Milano (Head of Internet of Things Competence Center)
  • 12:00 – 12:15 · LUMENTILE hardware technology · Guido GIULIANI –  Università di Pavia (Professor in Photonics, Coordinator of LUMENTILE Project)
  • 12:15 – 12:30 · LUMENTILE software technology · Tullio FACCHINETTI – Università di Pavia (Professor in Informatics and Robotics)
  • 12:30 – 13:00 · Demonstration of LUMENTILE luminous interactive tiles in the Inhabits Smart Square
  • 13:00 – 14:00 · Lunch

In the evening, starting from 20.15 a round table explored the possible uses of LED light, between architecture and design. In this scenario, the technology behind the luminous interactive tiles developed in the LUMENTILE EU H2020 Project will be showcased.
